Summary
Prison Sisters takes us through the journey of two young women, Sara and Najibeh, who have been released from prison in Afghanistan. Sara’s uncle has planned to kill her in an attempt to save his honor in their small village. Fearing for her life, Sara escapes to Sweden where she awaits asylum and maintains a long-distance relationship with her husband, who does not agree with her new, emancipated behavior. Her prison mate, Najibeh, remains in Afgahnistan and is stoned to death. Sara and the film’s director, Nima Sarvestani, attempt to uncover the truth behind Najibeh’s death, only to encounter a maze of half-truths on the streets of Afghanistan.
