Contents/Summary

Summary
Santa Cruz del Islote (Holy Cross of the Islet) is an island in the Colombian Caribbean the size of a football field inhabited by 540 people. There are no police, no priests, or doctors, or armed conflict. There are just 97 houses and 18 families; a school, a restaurant, and a small square with a cross in the center that honors its name, 'Santa Cruz del Islote'. It is the most densely populated island in the world, and surrounded by the sea, the islanders lack drinkable water and struggle with abundant waste and an overall shortage of resources. Despite that, for its inhabitants this space is their life, their paradise, their home. Santa Cruz del Islote is a shelter from the world for them, and a mirror of the world for us. 'Isolated' offers an insight to this unique place and makes this island a metaphor for our world.
