Summary
An elderly man is murdered in a small village. Dénes Suha, who occasionally works for the victim, is summoned to the police as a witness, but will soon be charged with the crime. The suspect denies it all along, but the two routine investigating officers, with the help of an informant and the promise of his release, they squeeze a confession out of him. Despite his innocence, he must stand trial. Although the evidence against him is not very convincing, the court, with possession of a confession, pleads guilty. The final sentence is 8 years in prison. Suha spends two years and four months in the prison when a real killer is found by chance. He may return home, but his village excludes him. He doesn't get a job from anyone. In order to sustain his life, he gets into a debt of a few tens of thousands of forints, which he intends to pay back with state compensation. However, the lawsuit for damages is protracted, and eventually his appeal is denied. Meanwhile, his creditors are taking his house, he no longer has to live anywhere. He hangs himself in his final despair. Dénes Suha had no one, no one misses it, so no one has to account for a ruined life.
