- Summary
- Some families from the Western Sahara region have been separated for 35 years now. On one side, Sarawis are living under Moroccan occupation in a violent repression. On the other, more than 165,000 refugees are exiled in the desert. The two are separated by a 2,700 km wall, and families are still waiting for a self-determination referendum. At the end of 2010, Sahrawis held the biggest protest in years at Gdeym Izik. This uprising arguably marks the beginning of the Arab Spring.
