Summary

The civil commemorations of the 2011 Bibó Centenary, largely devoid of state protocol, proved that this exceptionally large, integrative figure of Hungarian intellectual and public life is inalienable even at the age of one hundred, and that his life and oeuvre continue to withstand all such attempts. The history of the Bibó memorial book, published as a samizdat in 1980, is still not known in depth, its many personal motives and ideological backgrounds are still not revealed in a number of important details, although it is.
