- The film draws parallels between the situation in Latvia in which 283,000 Russiana (13% of the population) do not have citizenship and are deprived of political rights, with the current events in Ukraine. It does so by following Surgeon Sergey Matasov, a "non-citizen" of Latvia and resident of Riga who then moves to volunteer in Donetsk to provide medical assistance to the militias in their fight for national self-determination. on a larger scale, the film documents people trying to exist without renouncing their identity within countries which may have traded their traditions too fast for the delusion of a manufactured happiness made in the West.
