Contents/Summary

Summary
Some sixty years ago a man went missing for four years. He returned a changed man carrying along a painful secret, but talking about the past was forbidden in the family. It was his granddaughter, the director of this film, who first started asking questions, wanting to find out what was hidden beneath her grandfather’s scar-covered body. However, he died without revealing the entire story to anyone. Naked Island is an investigation built upon the ruins of the past and a mosaic of clues – family photos and intimate testimonies of a tight-knit group of people who were all united by the experience of a political prison in ex-Yugoslavia, also known as an island of broken souls. This place left its mark on all three generations. By exposing and examining the past, the family secret finally comes to the surface and becomes history, allowing the new generation to defy silence and fear.
