- The movie depicts the wars that have marked successive generations of Russians. The inevitability of conflict is slowly grasped as images compiled from a century of wars anonymously cycle before us as certainly as each generation matures. It is a poetical interpretation of war as the unavoidable fate of human beings. The movie is made up of a montage of archival footage from the first world war up to the present conflict in Chechnya.
