Contents/Summary

Summary
The film begins in the summer of 1989 in a Macedonian city. After a fight with his wife, Ilko leaves home with an empty suitcase, but is arrested by the police who find his empty bag suspicious. In the police van he recognizes a TV reporter Isus (Jesus) who has recently interviewed Ilko for a provocative TV-show. Ilko fears that he was not arrested by accident, but his father-in-law, a lawyer, assures him that he will soon be released. While in custody, Ilko witnesses the death of Isus, who jumps through a glass door. When Ilko’s release papers are finally ready, he still has to wait for the warden to sign them and, in the meantime, sadistic cell-boss Ljubo provokes him into beating him up. A prison guard also beats Ljubo to death and Ilko is convicted and sent to prison. Surrounded by tattooed convicts, Ilko decides to get a tattoo himself, a picture of Jesus, resembling the late Isus. Aggravated by this religious image, one of the prisoners takes a guard hostage, forces Ilko to drive an escape van and in the subsequent police stake out all three of them get killed.
