- Geel is a small town in Belgium, and the only one of its kind in the world. It boasts a population of 35400 inhabitants, of whom at least 550 are ‘village idiots’. They are not confined to an institution, but live with the locals as family. The documentary “Geel” is about this exceptional tradition where psychiatric patients are adopted by ordinary families.
