Summary
Twenty-three years after the Romanian Revolution, Bucharest is rebelling again. The elderly, the unemployed, youngsters, students, police officers, town crackpots, political activists and philistines all gather in the streets of the city, overwhelmed by a common desire for a better life; though none of them have a clear, practical understanding of what kind of life that should be. Vlad Petri followed the protesters for a year, from the first days of the anti-government protests to the final days of the Referendum against the President. Where are you Bucharest? is an intimate portrait of individual stories which exposes personal expectations and views on democracy. The film raises questions about the role of the public space, the power of the individual and the understanding of democracy in a society caught between a communist past and an uncertain future.
