Set in interwar Yugoslavia, this black comedy evolves around the Topalović family, consisting of five generations of males, the youngest one aged 25 and the oldest 120. After the death of 150-year-old Pantelija, a fight over the family inheritance starts. Mirko, the youngest, refuses to carry on the morticians’ trade which has been for generations the family’s main occupation. He is encouraged by his best friend Đenka and his girlfriend Kristina, but her father Billy Python, a supplier of used coffins to the Topalović company, now starts demanding a bigger share in the earnings and the two families come into conflict. Meanwhile, Mirko realizes there is something going on between Đenka and Kristina and, enraged by this double betrayal, kills them both. As a murderer, he returns to his family where he is warmly persuades the family to take up arms against the crooked grave-diggers who are trying to take over the business and a bloody struggle ensues that will determine the fate of the family.
