c| 2000.
a| On 25 March 2000, the day Putin is elected president of Russia, film maker Leo de Boer and his interpreter Masja Novikova, carrying two small DV cameras, take the train from Moscow to the Caucasus, towards Chechnya, to the 'rumbling belly' of the Russian Empire. 'Maybe we'll find some answers on the way', explains de Boer. Encounters with Caucasian and Russian fellow travellers lead to heated discussions about the reason for the Chechen war. When the track ends, de Boer and Novikova are forced to look for other means of transport. They finally reach the devastated city of Grozny by using taxis, helicopters and tanks. Only to find out there are no answers, only questions.
