a| UN peacekeepers were sent by the United Nations to keep peace in the Eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where a war is raging between rebels and government forces. 20,000 UN peacekeeping troops were sent there to bring stability to the region, but above all, to protect civilians from assaults and sexual violence.
