Notes
The black and white prints of RFE/RL were donated to OSA by the Hoover Institute, California in year 2015. The images are duplicates of those held at Hoover. The originals, and most probably the negatives are with the donor as well. OSA only received the paper prints with captions, and digitized the entire collection in year 2018.

Contents Summary
A tailor truck parked in a field. It houses part of a mobile transmitter. A guard in a long leather coat and a cap is standing next to it with his back to the viewer. He is carrying a rifle on his back. On the other side of the truck there is a pole to which a cable is running from the truck and from there further on. By one of the doors in the truck there is a portable step. In the background there are mountains. Cf. HU OSA 300-1-8/3:87, HU OSA 300-1-8/3:88.
ORIGINAL CAPTION:
On the edge of the iron curtain - near the West German town of Cham, a few kilometers from the Czechoslovak border, Radio Free Europe operates a mobile, medium-wave transmitter with a 50,000-watt signal. The transmitter is housed in several trailer trucks (one of them is shown above) which are patrolled day and night by guards and watchdogs. The mountains in the background are Czechoslovakia. Radio Free Europe has a network of 29 transmitters in West Germany and Portugal, made possible by the Crusade for Freedom.
