a| Aileen Wuornos, allegedly the first woman serial killer, was convicted of killing seven of her clients. Nick Broomfield tries to arrange an interview with her, first through her friendly but inept lawyer Steve Glazer and then through her “adoptive” mother, born-again Christian Eileen. As the negotiations over fees begin, the film becomes an exploration of the way a “serial killer” is constructed and sold as an image, starkly illustrated by the police officers who worked on the case, and who Broomfield discovers have sold their story to Hollywood producers. When he eventually meets Aileen he encounters a severely disturbed woman, and finds himself questioning her treatment at the hands of the media and the state.
