Derenk is a ruin in Borsod-Abaúj- Zemplén County, on the territory of the Aggtelek National Park in Hungary. Long ago it was a flourishing village, settled by Gurals from the region called Szepesség, who spoke Polish and were invited to the region in the early 1700s by Count Eszterházi. Later on Governor Miklós Horthy decided that the area was an ideal hunting ground therefore in 1943 the village was destroyed and its residents were transferred to the neighboring villages. Each year those who were born in Derenk and their descendants organize a festivity to remember the village they once knew.
