Contents/Summary

Summary
Seeking to find the best investment option for his teenage son, director Leo de Boer chooses the Icelandic miracle bank Icesave, just before its epic downfall. Leo’s very personal investigation in the investment world is driven both by the idea to regain the lost investment, and the desire to understand global economic mechanisms. In interviews with economists and professional investors, Leo tries to unravel the secret to good investments, and seeks out the processes underlying the temptation to gamble. He also visits people who lost large sums to pyramid schemes and other forms of speculation. Construction worker Henk lost 1.1 million Euro when one of the leading banks in Holland crashed. Marja and Marcelo gave their money to a close friend who promised them amazing interest rates but threw himself under a train when the financial bubble burst. This tragicomic quest reveals how people cope with financial loss and what role money plays in our lives. Meanwhile, Michael wants to buy a moped. Will his father manage to confess that half of Michael's capital has gone up in smoke?
