Behind the war itself was a media war which was almost as crucial in contesting the sympathy of the world for the opposing points of view. As a counter to the propaganda movies made in support of the French military campaign, a few directors such as René Vautier devoted themselves to documenting the struggle from behind the lines with the independence fighters. Much of this footage – at times moving and at times harrowing, often very beautiful – was banned in France. Much of it has been lost and some even destroyed. A compelling film which raises important questions about the power of filmmaking and the purposes it serves in documenting – or manipulating – reality. 580 Verzio Film Festival Submission 655 4 Documentary films 260 Belgium : |bSourat Films Co. ; Centre de l'Audiovisuel à Bruxelles, |c2009. 041 fra |jeng 952 |00 |10 |40 |50 |70 |8FL |992707FL |bFL |d2016-11-25 |l0 |r2016-11-25 |w2016-11-25 |yDVD-ROM 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6FL_RECORD_2674_000000000000000 |70 |8FL |9149125FL |bFL |d2019-05-06 |l0 |oFL Record 2674 |pHU_OSA_00004282.mp4 |r2021-11-04 |w2019-05-06 |yDIGIFILM |zAccess Copy, MP4 format |cAudio Visual 920 01 2XbVj9Xz 966 True |bHU_OSA_00004282 |cDigitally Anywhere / With Registration
