It presents the antiquarians but also the people on the other side of the counter - those selling the books. Simultaneously it illustrates how and when antiquarians buy the books and where these books come from, and how. The main protagonist is Tibi, a salesman with a huge nose who has been in the business for more than 20 years. He is looking forward to a nose operation but before it happens he still has some work to do.
