Most were cotton farmers from Vidarbha in Maharashtra. Once known for its fine cotton, it is now called the “graveyard of farmers.” The escalating cost of inputs like seed, fertilizer and pesticide has made farming unsustainable. The lack of resources and institutional credit for sowing the fields in the summer drives poor farmers to end their lives. In the winter, the depressed rates of cotton become the proverbial last straw. Cotton for my Shroud investigates the ongoing farmer suicide crisis in India and the culpability of the multinational Monsanto and the Indian government. It examines the idea of a second colonization of India stemming from corporations’ strategic control of seed supply and the corruption of politicians who are willing to help. 542 |fCopyright by Top Quark Films 580 Verzio Film Festival Submission 655 4 Documentary films 260 India : |bBahl, Kavitha, |c2011. 041 marenghin |jeng 952 |00 |10 |40 |50 |70 |8FL |993480FL |bFL |d2016-11-25 |l0 |r2016-11-25 |w2016-11-25 |yDVD-ROM 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6FL_RECORD_3424_000000000000000 |70 |8FL |9150743FL |bFL |d2019-06-26 |l0 |oFL Record 3424 |pHU_OSA_00005097.mp4 |r2021-11-04 |w2019-06-26 |yDIGIFILM |zAccess Copy, MP4 format |cAudio Visual 920 01 3YRrgkY1 966 True |bHU_OSA_00005097 |cDigitally Anywhere / With Registration
