a| Based on a true story dating back to 1985 when two Polish boys, a teenager and his little brother, escaped from communist Poland to Sweden hidden under a truck. Their father was a history teacher and was fired for his political beliefs. They decided to try a better life in the West. In the film the destination was changed for Denmark. After the successful escape, they are put in a refugee camp. The officials want to send them back to Poland, but a Polish journalist, who escaped some years before, fights for their cause and in the end they receive asylum. She also helps them to contact their parents. In a dramatic phone conversation their father tells them never to come back. Although the actual heroes confirmed in 1989 that this film fully conveyed their experiences, it is not a chronicle of their escape. Rather we see the two boys in two unwelcoming worlds: socialist Poland, and the affluent yet hostile Denmark.
