'Fairies in the Shrine' tells the story of Ayesha, once a five-year-old girl dreaming of an education who instead became her blind sister, Shumaila's assistant. Together, they live and beg in the slums of Sehwan Sharif, a holy city known for the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalander, located around 280 kilometers north of Karachi, the capital of the province of Sindh, which is the largest and most populous city in Pakistan.
