Contents/Summary

Summary
The large influx of migrant workers from South East Asia in recent years has altered the racial composition of Hong Kong. However, there is little contact or understanding between the Hong Kong Chinese and the ‘foreigners’. “Invisible Women” takes a look at the life of three Indian women in Hong Kong, in 1999. Vandana, an outspoken young barrister, was born and raised in Hong Kong. Preeti and Rehka, two young women from Bombay, came to work as domestics. These three women's backgrounds and experiences are very different. However, as Indians, they are all treated by mainstream society as "others". By documenting their lives this film addresses issues of gender inequality, unemployment, differentiated salaries, and the need for education and work opportunities.
