520    The Girl and the Soldier, participants in the Youth Communist Organization (REMS), take part in a scheme for stealing weapons. They start right away designing a plot that would explain their acquaintance in case of failure. They talk about the future, the revolution and about “dying for the cause” and fantasise about their future lives. The truck full of weapons drives out of the barracks. Both youths are killed in the shooting that follows. The film has a second ending in which the Girl and the Soldier rise up from the dust and kiss each other. The films plays with typival cliches of socialist achievements and the heroic past, and shows the REMS-ists as inexperienced youngsters with ordinary hopes for a good life.
