One continuing thread concerns a young woman, in love with one man, who is married off to another by the village elders. When she is caught meeting her true love, she is paraded through the village for public abuse and ridicule, during which globs of mud are hurled at her. Many vividly drawn and eccentric village characters are portrayed, from simpletons to fortune-tellers, and their dreams reveal what each would consider to be happiness in this life. The well-regarded director of this film, Tengiz Abuladze, was known for his visually sophisticated and symbolically rich works. "The Wishing Tree" is the second film in a Georgian trilogy by Abuladze: the first, released in 1969, was "Encounter", about the primitivist artist Nikos Piosmani the last, released in 1987, is known as "Repentance." Together with "Plead" and "Repentance", "The Wishing Tree" constitutes a trilogy and is best viewed in sequence. 542 |fCopyright by Gruzia film 546 With dubbing in English, Russian 655 4 Fiction films 260 Soviet Union : |bGruzia Film, |c1976. 041 kat 952 |00 |10 |40 |50 |70 |8FL |990629FL |bFL |d2016-11-25 |l0 |r2016-11-25 |w2016-11-25 |yDVD-ROM 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6FL_RECORD_0777_000000000000000 |70 |8FL |9146043FL |bFL |d2019-02-22 |l0 |oFL Record 0777 |pHU_OSA_00002508.mp4 |r2021-11-04 |w2019-02-22 |yDIGIFILM |zAccess Copy, MP4 format |cAudio Visual 920 01 7XL3QdoL 966 True |bHU_OSA_00002508 |cDigitally Anywhere / With Registration
