The true story of Dr. Ata Safavi, a retired urologist who currently lives in Toronto. In 1947, at the age of 20, Safavi who was a leftist activist in Iran was threatened by Shah Mohammad Reza’s agents with exile to a remote town in south of Iran. He escaped to the Soviet Union but was convicted for illegal entry and spent twenty five years in a prison in Magadan. While most of his three thousand fellow prisoners died or committed suicide, Ata fought for his right to live.
