a| Film director Vitaly Mansky crosses Ukraine to explore Ukrainian society mirrored by his own extended family. Today, his relatives live scattered all across the country; in Lviv, Odessa, Donbass, and Sevastopol. He starts with his birthplace, Lviv in Western Ukraine, which was once the Polish city of Lwow and before that belonged to the Habsburg Empire as Lemberg. The journey proceeds further to the East and gives voices to relatives of different generations and social status'. Set within the timeline of 2014-2016, the film presents different perspectives, realities and attitudes towards life in Ukraine. The film is looking for reasons behind the conflict after many relatives found themselves on different sides of barricades, including the director’s own family. The documentary provides a valuable insight into the malleable nature of borders and conflicting identities, filtered through personal experience.
