Summary
Just one photograph and a few letters have survived to bear testimony to the life of Regina Jonas, the world’s first female rabbi. Born in Berlin to a poor Orthodox Jewish peddler, her greatest ambition was to become a rabbi, something forbidden to women by Jewish law. One photograph and almost 50 hours of archival footage form the basis for reconstructing the moving story of this exceptionally courageous woman.
