Mila, who was sold to a thuggish smuggler by the director of the orphanage in which she grew up, escapes to a rural village populated mainly by pot-smoking senior citizens who take her in and care for her. She also falls in love with the local hermit, a hunky, mystical war veteran who lives in a ruined church. Mila From Mars was selected by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art for inclusion in the 2005 edition of New Directors/New Films.
