Writer Franz Kafka left his will to his friend Max Brod in 1924. He wrote, "Dearest Max, my last request: everything I leave behind me… to be burned unread… Yours, Franz Kafka." Ten years later, Brod caught the last train leaving Prague, escaping the Nazis to Israel, where he distributed Kafka's writings. In 2011, the fate of Kafka's writings is in the hands of two women who keep the archives in substandard conditions in their rundown Tel Aviv apartment.
