- Since the Argentinean economic crisis of 2001, more than 6,000 “cartoneros” push their handcarts to collect recyclable materials from household waste on the streets of Buenos Aires. The “cartoneros” or waste collectors usually appear at dusk having taken lifts on trains and trucks from the poorest areas of the province. “Fantasmas de Capital” tells the stories of these “cartoneros.”
