The direction of the film quickly shifted after the racially motivated murder of James Byrd Jr. in Jasper, Texas in June 1998; a black man who was killed by three white men who chained him to their truck and dragged him three miles through predominantly black parts of the county until one of his arms came off and he was decapitated. What began as an elegant meditation on the South became a passionate documentary capturing the emotionally tumultuous aftermath of Byrd’s murder. Focusing on the lynching of James Byrd Jr., the film attempts to decipher the roots of racism and race related crimes in the 20th century in the heart of the United States. 580 Soros Documentary Fund 655 4 Documentary films 260 United States, |c1999. 041 eng 952 |00 |10 |40 |50 |70 |8FL |992558FL |bFL |d2016-11-25 |l0 |r2016-11-25 |w2016-11-25 |yDVD-ROM 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6FL_RECORD_2537_000000000000000 |70 |8FL |9148869FL |bFL |d2019-04-29 |l0 |oFL Record 2537 |pHU_OSA_00004153.mp4 |r2021-11-04 |w2019-04-29 |yDIGIFILM |zAccess Copy, MP4 format |cAudio Visual 920 01 BY0rQ4oN 966 True |bHU_OSA_00004153 |cDigitally Anywhere / With Registration
