Contents/Summary

Summary
Uzbekistan is the third largest cotton exporter in the world, and also one of the most exploited. As the state holds the monopoly on cotton trade, farmers cannot afford adult pickers and are forced to systematically use child labor to fulfill the quota. For about two or three months a year, schools are closed and children are conscripted to arduous labor in the fields, often working and living in extreme conditions and receiving little or no pay in return.
