The son of a famous Stakhanovite portrayed in the earlier "Man of Marble" works in the Gdańsk shipyard. He is particularly outspoken and the Party sends Winkiel – a weak alcoholic TV hack – to Gdańsk to collect materials that could discredit him. Posing as a friend, Winkiel interviews people who know Tomczyk, including his detained wife, Agnieszka. Their narrations become flashbacks using actual news footage of 1968 and 1970 protests and of the later birth of free unions and Solidarity. Some of the scenes were shot with the participation of Lech Wałęsa – the strike leader. Winkiel soon learns that he is on the wrong side, that power relations are likely to change and that there will be little room for him in the new order. Enthusiastically received in the West, Wajda’s film played an important part in the anti-communist resistance. Recently it has been pointed out that the film is propagandist in its black-and-white depiction of the August 1980 strikes. 542 |fCopyright by Vision Film Distribution Company 655 4 Fiction films 260 Poland : |bZespol Filmowy X, |c1981. 041 pol |jeng |jrus |jdeu |jita |jspa |jfin 952 |00 |10 |40 |50 |70 |8FL |990520FL |bFL |d2016-11-25 |l0 |r2016-11-25 |w2016-11-25 |yDVD-ROM 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6FL_RECORD_0673_000000000000000 |70 |8FL |9145827FL |bFL |d2019-02-20 |l0 |oFL Record 0673 |pHU_OSA_00002400.mp4 |r2021-11-04 |w2019-02-20 |yDIGIFILM |zAccess Copy, MP4 format |cAudio Visual 920 01 Ge32g9Y0 966 True |bHU_OSA_00002400 |cDigitally Anywhere / With Registration
