Sukumaland, an area of Tanzania which contains one tenth of the country's population and its largest tribe, was chosen for the study. Before independence it exhibited the most organized nationalist political activity of any part of the country and developed the largest African-owned co-operative movement in all of Africa. In the final decade of the colonial era Sukumaland was the British administration's principal experimental area for attempts at radical transformation of indigenous political institutions and traditional agricultural techniques. After independence it became a critical testing ground for President Julius Nyerere's concepts of African socialism. 580 HU OSA 300 - RFE/RL collection 651 0 Sukuma region. 651 0 Tanzania |xPolitics and government. 856 41 |3Table of contents only |uhttp://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0916/75085727-t.html 856 42 |3Publisher description |uhttp://www.loc.gov/catdir/enhancements/fy0916/75085727-d.html 880 |6245 942 |2ddc |cBK 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6320_900000000000000_678_2_MAG |70 |8GEN |9165051OSA |bOSA |d2024-09-11 |eRFE/RL |l0 |o320.9/678/2 MAG |r2024-09-11 |w2024-09-11 |yBK |cOSA Repository 920 01 JXKPyEYG 992 01 320_900000000000000_678_2_MAG |bWXZ_QZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ_TSR_X_DPJ 966 |cIn the Research Room
