Until eight years ago, Adamà was a forced gold mine laborer in Burkina Faso, exploited twelve hours a day to earn just a dish of rice and beans. Adamà was constantly afraid but he dreamt of finding gold which would allow him to go back to school. And, ultimately, he did go back to school: in Italy. Now he is a university student in Brindisi. He speaks Italian perfectly and, with the elderly people in the village, a fantastic dialect of the Salento area. This film traces the two stories within Adamà 's life--that of his time in the mine and at university.
