- Notes
- The black and white prints of RFE/RL were donated to OSA by the Hoover Institute, California in year 2015. The images are duplicates of those held at Hoover. The originals, and most probably the negatives are with the donor as well. OSA only received the paper prints with captions, and digitized the entire collection in year 2018.

- Contents Summary
- Several antennae in a field photographed from a distance. Among the thin and high antennae there is one shorter and more robust one. In the middle there are a few station buildings. In the background there is a line of hills.
ORIGINAL CAPTION:
"Curtain" antennas at Holzkirchen, RFE transmitter site 18 miles south of Munich. All RFE programs are broadcast into the five target satellite countries through 28 transmitters located in three chief transmitter stations: Biblis, roughly 200 miles northwest of Munich (213,000 watts). Holzkirchen, (135,000 watts) and Lisbon, Portugal (813,500 watts). By comparision: in the United States the Federal Communications Commission does not license radio stations of more than 50,000 watts capacity. The theory of RFE broadcast transmission is that many varied-capacity transmitters will combat Communist jamming more successfully than a few very powerful transmitters. If one transmitter wave-length is jammed, the listener has his choice of several other wave-lengths over which he may receive RFE's broadcasts.
