Notes
The black and white prints of RFE/RL were donated to OSA by the Hoover Institute, California in year 2015. The images are duplicates of those held at Hoover. The originals, and most probably the negatives are with the donor as well. OSA only received the paper prints with captions, and digitized the entire collection in year 2018.

ORIGINAL CAPTION:
Randolfo Pacciardi, former Deputy Prime Minister of Italy (center ) with Archibald S. Alexander (far right) and Ambassador Hughes (far left) at second West European Advisory Committee (WEAC) meeting, Radio Free Europe, Munich, October 31.
WEAC is a group of eminent European statesmen formed to advice the Free Europe Committee, which operates Radio Free Europe, the U.S. privately-financed radio station broadcasting to five countries under communist domination in Eastern Europe.
Nikita Khrushchev's whirlwind wooing of the West must in no way alter the West's conviction that no real peace is possible in the world until the fate of the satellite nations in Eastern Europe has been settled.
WEAC also recommended RFE to broadcast Khrushchev statements on disarmament. By holding Khrushchev to his words the West could thus increase the chances of the Soviets relaxing their grip on the captive nations.
The WEAC meeting was the second since its formation in Paris in May of this year.
In addition to its president, Signor Pacciardi, Mr. van Zeeland and Ambassador Francois-Poncet, its members include M. Robert Schuman, president of the European Parliamentary Assembly; Dr. Paolo Cunha, former Portuguese minister of foreign affairs; Joao Pinto da Costa-Leite, Portuguese economist; Dr. Frans Goedhart, Netherlands parliamentarian; Samuel Watson, British trade-union leader; Alastair Buchan, British journalist-politician; Birger Kildal, Norwegian editor-journalist; Dr. Karl Wistrand, Swedish senator; Professor Werner Richter, German scholar; and Dr. Franz-Joseph Schoeningh, German publisher.
Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Mr. John C. Hughes, chairman of the board of the Free Europe Committee, and Archibald S. Alexander, its president, attended the WEAC meetings as observants.
