a| The film follows the surreal journey of voodoo priest Edgar and Rasta Juste through Haiti to discover if any native black pigs survived the USAID backed programme to combat African Swine Fever, which involved eradicating an entire species of indigenous Creole pigs. The pigs had been the banking system of the peasants - left to forage for themselves and then sold when needed to pay for 'luxuries' like medicine, schooling and housing. The loss of their 'piggy bank' was a catastrophe, causing deforestation, emigration and even deeper poverty. “A Pig’s Tale” investigates these issues illustrating the catastrophic consequences of USAID’s actions on Haiti's rural poor population.
