Contents/Summary

Summary
In Sivas, Turkey on the 2nd of June 1993, extreme Islamists staged a massacre against the Alevis (pro-sharia Islamists). They burned down the Madimak Hotel, in which Menekse, a 15-year-old girl, and her 12 year-old-brother, Koray were staying. Other victims included well-known Alevi intellectuals, authors, journalists and musicians. In memory of her lost daughter, Husne, named her third child Menekse. The film follows Menekse as she attempts to connect with her lost siblings and unravel what happened that day by speaking to various witnesses from this massacre in 1993. The witnesses, many of whom lost loved ones, recall the events of that horrific day. The film questions the reasoning behind religious crimes and extremist beliefs.
