a| October 17th, 1961 was a tragic day during the Algerian War (1954-1962). In response to the call of the Front de Libération Nationale (National Liberation Front), thousands of Algerians from Paris and its suburbs marched in the metropolis to protest against the curfew imposed on them. The protest was violently suppressed by French police. Fifty years later, the filmmaker sheds light on the events of the day. Blending testimony and unseen archive footage, history and memory, past and present, the film presents different stages of the day and reveals the political tactics employed by the highest level of the French state, such as manipulation of public opinion, systematic challenge of every accusation and censorship of information, which demonstrates the level of institutional racism and state-endorsed violence at the time.
