Ever since Romania saw, in 1989, the end of Nicolae Ceausescu’s dictatorship, the precarious economic situation of the country through has resulted in many children living on the city’s streets, especially in the capital. This is the story of children living in the sewers of the North Railway station of Bucharest. They are known as ‘Aurolacs’, because that is the name of the brand of synthetic paint to which they are addicted.
