a| For fifteen years Dorey and Yolanda Nez thought they were the only family on the Navajo Native American Reservation whose children had an extremely rare genetic disorder, Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), which makes any exposure to sunlight fatal. However, when Yolanda discovers other Navajo children suffering from the same disease, she starts investigating. Filmed over three years, with unprecedented access to the Navajo community, the film follows the couple as they bravely confront long-held tribal taboos. Ultimately, their journey leads them to the shocking truth: their children are still paying the price for an almost forgotten chapter in American history, the Navajo “Long Walk,” the forced relocation by the US military in 1864. What Dorey and Yolanda find challenges the core of their identity and exposes a fresh perspective on the complex challenges of indigenous peoples in the USA.
