a| The main characters of the film are Polish political prisoners deported in the first transport to the Auschwitz concentration camp. About three hundred of them survived the camp, and a few are alive today. Throughout their lives they have given testimony of the cruelty of the concentration camps, appealing for peace between the world's nations. The film is composed of a record of the journey along the route that the first transportees travelled: from the prison in Tarnow to the final stage - the memorial site, the former Auschwitz death camp.
