a| French animator and documentary veteran Alain Ughetto presents a largely autobiographical film set in the Middle East, which combines plasticine animation and super-8 footage. Shot in Iran the contextual archival material interacts with live-action interventions during the animated sequences. This mixed media feature presents a very personal take on the director’s relationship with Jasmine, an Iranian woman who changes the course of his life. Having met in France, the couple moved to Tehran where they lived during the turmoil of the Iranian Revolution that turned the country into an Islamic republic. Thirty years later, revisiting his past by browsing old letters, drawings, film and photo records, the filmmaker rekindles this incredible story via plasticine figures. Historical details and conflicting emotions of love are constantly juxtaposed, making the film at once a very specific and very universal story of a lost love.
