The protagonists of the story, Michael Alpert, Dan Kahn, Psoy Korolenko, Bob Cohen and Jake Shulman-Ment, call themselves ‘The Brothers Nazaroff’ after the legendary Klezmer musician and storyteller Prince Nazaroff who they believe lived in the early 20th century in the Russian Empire.
