Contents/Summary
- Summary
- The “Maison du Peuple”, People’s House, is a building in Brussels which was the first structure in Belgium to have a largely iron and glass facade. It was built between 1896-99, with Victor Horta as its chief architect. The building served as public meeting house and offices for the up and coming Socialist Party in Belgium. Architectural historians often describe the demolition of this incredible Art Nouveau building in 1965 as one of the greatest architectural crimes of the Twentieth Century. The film illustrates the history, motivation, memories and the future of the “Maison de Peuple”.
