- Summary
- The Karatygin twin sisters are striving to become what many of their peers also dream of: famous. This is how they come to participate in the TV talk-show, “The Utterly Stunning.” Unexpectedly, the quiz show, which rarely challenges its guests intellectually, poses a question to the girls about the meaning of the word “Holocaust.” After some hesitation caused by the unfamiliar word, they ventured to guess that it was the name for a wallpaper glue. This episode of the show went viral on YouTube and became a widely discussed media event, raising questions about the Russian education system, and about the girls themselves. A meeting with the Karatygin sisters inspired the director to arrange a trip for them to the memorial site at the Auschwitz former concentration camp, and to expose the sisters - who had never before left Russia - to the site of one of the most horrific tragedies of the 20th century.
