a| In this hilarious comedy, essentially a unique version of a typical road movie transferred to the ambience of the Serbian provinces in April 1941, a group of people travel by bus from the Serbian countryside to Belgrade. The passengers are nothing but extraordinary and include a young ballad singer and a womanizer, careless hunter, hypochondriac, German loving nit-picking intellectual, an old soldier from the First World War, two Gypsy harmonica players and a newly married couple. Even the two drivers, heavy handed father and his retarded son Miško blessed with a special talent for driving are nothing of an exception. The journey turns out to be full of adventures as the party is faced with numerous obstacles, most of them unexpected and unplanned. After Misko gets recruited into the Yugoslav army, the journey extends into the second day and finally ends with the whole bus beating up two gypsies, convinced that they have stolen the old soldier’s wallet. As they beat them to death, the first German bombs star falling on Belgrade.
